Departure for Surabaya by the sancaka train in the morning. You will take the train for about 4-5 hours to reach your hotel in Bromo.

Approximately 6 hours by car.

Departure around 4 am, with a local guide, to climb Bromo volcano.

You will take a 4x4 to reach the starting point of the hike.

Return to the hotel to have your breakfast and rest before heading back to Kalibaru.

Get up at 4 a.m. Approximately one hour drive to the entrance of the national park. In order to reach the Soufrière, it is necessary to make about 1h30 of hiking (moderate hike).

The sunrise on the volcano will become a memorable moment of your trip as well as the meeting with the sulfur carriers.

In the heart of a 134 km caldera, the Idjen Merapi massif is formed by three volcanoes: the Raung, the Merapi (not to be confused with the Sumatera and Yogyakarta volcanoes) and the Kawah Ijen, the green crater which culminates at 2400 m. The Kawah Ijen, resting for the moment, is the main sulfur mining center of all Indonesia and, for a few thousand rupiahs, men travel twice a day with nearly 80 kg on their backs. Sulfur is used, among other things, for sugar refining. The Kawah Ijen is mostly known by French tourists, as it was covered in a report by Nicolas Hulot. Moreover, we will not fail to tell you if you say you are French. The hike is really worth it; your efforts will be rewarded!
